About the Illustrator
April Wengren graduated magna cum laude from Kutztown University, Kutztown, Pennsylvania, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting. She also studied weaving and fiber design. Upon completion of her formal education, April continued to develop her skills while pursuing various occupations. She eventually settled into the "crafts world," creating and producing exceptional sculptural baskets and unique weavings. Her work has been honored with numerous awards to include "Best Collaboration," Dana Gallery, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania and the "John Guise Memorial Award," Fiber Arts Show, Packwood House Museum, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. April has had her work exhibited at Bucknell University for the Mid-Atlantic Fiber Conference, at Bloomsburg University as part of a "Two Person Show" in the President's lounge, and in the gallery at Franklin and Marshall College. She has also been featured on the cover of PA Crafts Magazine.
Always alert to her artistic instincts, April has been pulled back into the fine arts field and is currently working in pen and ink illustrations and experimenting with other media in illustrating. Her studio business Starry Night Stamps is enjoying great success.
When not busy in the studio, April enjoys tending her flower garden. She especially likes taking care of the Koi and bullfrogs in the water garden that she, husband John, and faithful dog "Killer" worked hard to create--another "work of art" for sure!
